REFRESH DALLAS · ADHD

ADHD is neurology, not character.

The browser with too many tabs. The dishes that wait for tomorrow. The hyperfocus that arrives at the wrong time. The exhausting awareness of all of it. We treat ADHD across Texas as the neurological condition it is, in adolescents and adults.

THE CONDITION

It is not a discipline problem.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition with measurable biological underpinnings. It is not laziness. It is not poor time management. It is not a personality. People with ADHD have often spent years being told they could perform better if they tried harder. Most of them already are.

In adults ADHD often shows up differently than the textbook describes. Chronic disorganization. Time blindness. Emotional dysregulation. Sensitivity to rejection. The exhausting pattern of overcommitting and then under-delivering, even on things you actually care about.

ADHD is commonly diagnosed late in women, who often present with inattentive symptoms rather than hyperactivity. Many women arrive at our practice having been treated for years for anxiety or depression while the underlying ADHD has gone uncovered.

OUR APPROACH

Real diagnosis. Responsible prescribing.

The first visit is the long one. We take a thorough developmental history, current symptoms, how ADHD is affecting your work and your relationships, and we rule out other contributors. Many patients arrive with self-suspicion or with old pediatric records. We work from there.

When medication is appropriate, stimulants remain first-line for most patients and are substantially effective. Non-stimulants are the right choice for some patients, either because of contraindications or because of preference. Either way, the medication and the schedule are particular to you.

Controlled-substance prescribing has its own responsibilities. We document clearly, follow up regularly, and have honest conversations about whether the medication is doing what it should be. We are not a mill, and ADHD is not the kind of diagnosis that benefits from one.

SCOPE OF CARE

Where another setting is the right call.

We don't provide formal neuropsychological testing. When you need a comprehensive cognitive evaluation for academic accommodations or legal purposes, we refer to specialists who do that work.

For new patients arriving with an existing stimulant prescription, we'll need to do our own evaluation before we can continue prescribing. This is not a delay tactic. It's the only way we can know we're prescribing responsibly for the person in front of us.

FAQ

Questions.

No. The diagnostic evaluation happens as part of your first visit. Pediatric records or prior assessments are helpful when available but not required.

Worth talking about openly. ADHD and substance use are connected for some patients, and untreated ADHD can make recovery harder. We have safe options for these situations, including non-stimulants and stimulants under careful monitoring depending on the picture.

Stimulant prescriptions require regular follow-up. This is both a regulatory requirement and a clinical best practice. The schedule depends on how stable you are and what we are managing.

Some of our providers see children and adolescents of most ages. Whether we're the right fit for a younger child depends on the specific situation and the provider, so reach out and we'll be honest about it.

If this is an emergency, or if you are worried about your safety right now, please reach out for support that can meet the moment. You can call or text 988 anytime to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, or go to your nearest emergency department.

ADHD treatment is well-established and effective when done with care. The work of getting it right is worth doing.
